Gruut Amber

(Ghent, Belgium)

All Genste Stadsbrouwerij (Ghent City Brewery) beers are handcrafted in small batches. The present day brewery is located on the site of a 14th century brewery. In the Middle Ages the river Leie divided the city in two parts. On one side the Germans brewers used traditional beer ingredients like hops. The French side added spice or Gruut to their beers. Landlords collected a tax from the brewers based on the amount of spice used in the beer.

The Gruut coin is the symbol used by our brewery today. Our beers combine present day brewing technique with centuries old tradition.

Gruut Belgian Amber Ale has an amazing rich taste; a deep copper color and smooth drink ability. Drink all Gruut beers from a traditional glass and notice its fabulous head and fine bouquet.
